Overall, it was a pretty fun experience. I had never done much gardening in my life so it was definitely something new and different. I got to learn about so many different plants and animal life, as well as the history of the Presidio parks. I felt really satisfied because my last day was also the first place I had volunteered for this project. It felt good to see all the changes I helped make in Dragonfly Creek and to know that I was doing more than just weeding, but helping to protect and maintain some of the wildlife. I plan on coming back on my own time to volunteer.

Senior Project Day 8 (Part 2)
Time Spent: 3 hours
Total Time: 30 hours
For my last few hours, I continued to work at Dragonfly Creek. Our next goal was to plant some native plants into the ground. There were so many different plants we needed to plant, such as wild strawberry and blackberry. I learned about a tree we had to plant which had roots that could grow to be a 100 pounds! The day was a bit tiring and kind of hectic, as I had to quickly shower and get ready for ball right after, but in the end it felt really rewarding.

It was really tiring carrying the tarp and taking it to the truck, however, it was a team effort as multiple people needed to carry it together. The park stewards showed us a picture of what Dragonfly creek looked like before restoration was done to it and what it looked like after the park stewards had came in. It was a pretty drastic change.

My last day was at Dragonfly Creek and it was one of the most challenging days. It was really sunny out and the first part of our work involved a lot of physical labor. What we had to do was take some of the soil out, using tools such as shovels and rakes, and put the soil onto some tarp. We then had to carry the tarp up to the truck and dump the soil there.

Senior Project Day 7
The weather today was sunny with a light breeze so it was a really nice day to work outside. In addition to some of the plant life, I learned about some of the small animals that could be found at the site. I also learned how the memorial was maintained so the park stewards really only needed to come out about once a month to the site to regulate the weeds.

Today we went to a World War II memorial site. What we had to do was take out some weeds from the site. By now, I think I have become a pro at taking out weeds. I learned about some of the weeds such as Scarlet Pimpernel, which had orange flowers, and baby rattlesnake weed, which had little flowers that looked and shook like rattles from a rattlesnake.
